Breeders of Rough and Smooth Collies of Distinction.
We focus on excellent health, honest work ethic, confidence, natural retrieve,
manageable energy, resilience, and a patient, kind temperament.
We are located in Edmonton, Alberta.
Our Breeding Philosophy
LestWeForget Collies strives to honor the brave, intelligent, hardy collies that at the turn of the century served as messenger dogs, red cross dogs, and in other roles in battle.
Our breeding philosophy:
1.Excellent Heath - Health is the cornerstone to our breeding program. We strive to breed for healthy dogs with the welfare of the dogs and their handlers by breeding for good/excellent hips & elbows, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) free, Collie Eye Abnormality (CEA) normal (eventually free), MDR1 normal/normal (at worst normal/mutant), OFA heart and thyroid normal and free from skin disorders, bloat, allergies, and other life and quality-of-life threatening disorders.
2.Honest work ethic - We breed for dogs that want to work, but are not so driven to work that they will chew up your couch. A dog must be able to work a full day in service or stay at home with the handler if the handler is sick. Also, the dog must be able to have sufficient drive to continue working for its handler in situations it may be uncomfortable in. A flexible dog who wants to work is what we breed for.
3.Natural retrieve - We are breeding a line of Collies that possesses a natural retrieve (as often as possible) in order to make them more easily adaptable to service dog training programs.
4.Low/Medium energy level - We breed for dogs that require short, regular walks (or play outside in a yard), but are able to have the stamina and speed for agility, flyball or sheep herding, whatever the handler asks of them.
5.Patient, kind temperament - We breed for dogs that are patient with their handler, children and any situation their handler asks them to perform in. Also, it is imperative to maintain the Collie’s reputation for them to be kind with humans and animals.
Don't know anything about collies and need a reference? We have two lines of collies that we are breeding. Our 'chill' working line is like if you crossed a Bernese Mountain Dog (happy-go-lucky) with a Golden Retriever (sweet temperament), and our 'sporty' working line is like if you crossed a Golden Retriever (sweet temperament) with a Belgian Malinois (high work drive).
(But really, these are both just temperament types of collies)
